Will see what Mat says - not heard anyone else with these problems - there is a 'contact us' link on the help page if you should ever need it again.
What version of IE?
Sounds like an IE specific issue. Could be something to do with loading settings. The site uses a lot of CSS. Knowing the IE version will help. I've certainly not heard of this before.
V: Thanks. I emailed a while back and didn't get a reply so I thought this would be a better way of contacting. K: It's a crap old version of IE so maybe that's the problem. But my firefox is up to date and still has the problem of not displaying the last few images.
Early versions of IE (pre 8) are not supported. The problem is to do that, we have to break the site for everything else. Sorry about that. It's a problem for all websites, I'm afraid. IE isn't a great browser from a developers point of view (or a user's, but that's another matter)
The not displaying the last few images thing is weird. I must confess I've never seen or heard of that before. It sounds like a client-side error (otherwise we'd all be seeing it), but I'm very uncertain of where you might start to look to fix it. Does it happen on all computers you look on, or just your home one?
Emails via the contact page often end up my spam folder, which I do check occasionally but it's rather high-traffic in there - very sorry for missing yours.
Hi Mat
Re: weird not displaying last few images thing - yes, it happens on my home laptop (running firefox) and two other computers I've checked which are running IE. The only images that don't display are the current one and all others up to and including the post titled 'PZ'. All other images posted before 'PZ' display fine. Weird thing is, when I click on 'Latest' then click back to my moblog, the images are displayed again.
Hmm. Sounds like the most recent images just aren't loading right away for some reason.
There's nothing on our end that could be causing that, as far as I know, and I haven't heard it happening to anyone else.
The other computers you've tried, are they in your house? (by which I mean, are they all using the same internet connection?)
The other question is does this happen on anyone else's moblogs, or just yours?
the other computers I've tried are not in my house. other moblogs I view seem to load fine.
OK, so that's ruled out your router doing some weird not-loading of images thing.
If other moblogs work fine then it's probably down to your custom CSS. Although how CSS might cause such a thing to happen is beyond me.
I'll have a look at it and see if anything odd shows up.
The real problem I have with this is that sometimes I send someone a link to my moblog - yet when they click on it and arrive at my page, they can't see my images! Or at least, they can't see my images up to and including the post titled 'PZ.' I'm sure the problem is something to do with my CSS but have no idea how to fix it. It's very strange that this affects only my most recent pictures rather than all of them, and that it only started happening recently.
Billion, it may be worth disabling your custom css and trying to replicate the problem then. Also clear your cache.
I tried removing all custom css from my moblog, then typed www.moblog.net/billion into the address bar and - the same problem occurs. there's just lines of my text and a messed up layout but no images. this would imply that the problem is not with the css. what else could it be?
for some reason in my account settings it says, 'There is more than one account with this email address.' I may be clutching at straws here, but could this be causing the problem?
wait, you're hitting www.moblog.net/billion? That shouldn't work at all (it should redirect you to moblog.net/whatever)
does http://moblog.net/billion work OK?
Right, no-www should be being enforced now. So if that's your problem, it should go away.
ok, works now. should I be wearing the dunce's cap?
I have never, ever heard of this phenomenon whereby putting in the www messes up a web page. but then, why would I have heard about it? is this the same for everyone else? www-entry messes up their page? this has been the whole problem all along?
I suspect this has been the problem all along.
The technical explanation is fairly long and extremely dull, suffice to say two lines of setup for the webserver got missed when we moved to the new machine. And lo, all this trouble was caused.
well that's sorted I guess. it's a bit annoying giving out my moblog link to people as http://moblog.net/billion rather than www.moblog.net/billion (the latter looks neater I think) but hey, I can live with it.
You can give out either or both addresses, but www.moblog.net/billion will now at least work. It'll redirect to moblog.net/billion, but it will show your pictures.
